K9 was a robot dog that travelled with the Doctor. Several versions of it were made.

Biography Edit

K9 Mark I Edit

Professor Frederick Marius built the first K9 in the year 5000. He had a dog on Earth, but when he went to work on asteroid K4067, weight requirements would not allow him to bring the dog, so he created K9 as a substitute. He met the Doctor before he had to return to Earth, and the same requirements would not let him bring K9 back. He offered the robot dog to the Doctor, who took it with him. (TV: The Invisible Enemy) After travelling together for some time, it chose to stay with Leela when she left the Doctor to stay on the Homeworld. (TV: The Invasion of Time)

K9 became a covert operative for the Time Lords. When Faction Paradox, led by a future biodata-altered version of the Doctor, attacked Gallifrey, Romana sent K9 to the Edifice to kill the Doctor so his future self would cease to exist. However, Fitz Kreiner reconfigured the Doctor's timeship so that K9 was trapped behind the back wall. (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles) More than a century later, the Doctor began to hear it scratching. (PROSE: Trading Futures) The wall was damaged during the Vore attack on the Earth, and the Doctor decided to see what was there. K9 escaped and was going to carry out its orders, but after scanning his mind changed its plans to preserve him. After defeating the Vore, the Doctor sent K9 to Espero on a secret mission. Its whereabouts after that were unknown. (PROSE: The Gallifrey Chronicles)

K9 Mark II Edit

After leaving the original K9 on the Homeworld, the Doctor constructed a second one. (TV: The Invasion of Time, The Ribos Operation) It became attached to Romana, and left with her when she eventually departed. (TV: Warrior's Gate) When she returned to the Homeworld and became President, K9 was one of her closest advisors. It interacted with the original, but there relationship was not congenial. (PROSE: Lungbarrow, AUDIO: Gallifrey)

K9 Mark III Edit

A third model was sent by the Doctor in 1978 for Sarah Jane Smith to the home of her Aunt Lavinia in South Croydon. However, by that time Sarah was travelling and never knew it was there. In 1981 she went to her Aunt's new house, found the crate it was in and finally got her new companion. (TV: A Girl's Best Friend)

In 1996, it helped Sarah when the Remote came to Earth. (PROSE: Interference - Book One)
